Lions Injury Update: Kerby Joseph, Alim McNeill, and More - Latest News and Insights (2025)

The Detroit Lions are facing some crucial injury challenges, and the latest updates from Coach Dan Campbell paint a picture of cautious optimism and strategic planning. Let's dive into the specifics, shall we?

Kerby Joseph

Joseph's knee injury has been a visible concern, causing him noticeable pain. Coach Campbell is taking a page from the Taylor Decker playbook, allowing Joseph time to heal and regain strength. The coaching staff is carefully evaluating Joseph's condition, considering his pain levels, performance impact, and long-term health.

"We have to weigh every one of those," Campbell stated, indicating a thorough reassessment. Joseph's recent game performance, though valiant, wasn't his best, as even he admitted. His availability for the upcoming week remains uncertain, especially with Brian Branch's suspension, which leaves the Lions in need of Joseph's skills.

Alim McNeill

After a 21-day evaluation period following his ACL injury last year, McNeill has now had two weeks of practice. He's still on the Physically Unable to Perform list, but the coach is pleased with his progress. Campbell mentioned that McNeill is looking good in practice and has a chance to play against the Buccaneers this week.

"The last two weeks he’s looked good," Campbell said, "He’s getting more comfortable, legs are under him, he’s physically ready. So I think we’re all hopeful." Will he play? "I’d love to believe so," Campbell said. "I would, 58—52/48 (percent)? 58—I don’t know [laughing]. We’re getting closer. I’m starting to feel pretty good.”

Terrion Arnold/Avonte Maddox

Both Arnold (shoulder) and Maddox (hamstring) missed the game against the Chiefs. According to Campbell, they are both expected to miss the upcoming game against the Buccaneers. The plan is for them to potentially return after the bye week.

Marcus Davenport

Having spent four games on injured reserve, Davenport is eligible to return to the practice field this week. However, Campbell suggests he isn't quite ready.

"Not yet," Campbell said. "He’s doing well, he’s getting better. We like where all of those (IR) guys are at. Man, we’re going to be looking pretty good at the end of November, December, which is awesome. But I don’t see him being ready before the bye for sure.”

Malcolm Rodriguez

Justin Rogers of Detroit Football Network reports that Rodriguez underwent a clean-up procedure on his ACL, which has delayed his return. Campbell anticipates Rodriguez could return to the practice field shortly after the bye week.

"We’re hoping after the bye we can start rolling him out there a little bit, get him going," Campbell said.
